God made us to display His goodness, truth, beauty, wisdom and justice. He is glorified as we find our deepest satisfaction in who He is (Isaiah 43:6-7).
Because God made us for His glory, every part of life should show His worth. Loving, trusting, thanking and obeying God shapes how we love other people (1 Corinthians 10:31; Matthew 22:37; 1 John 5:3-4; Psalm 100:2-4; Colossians 1:4-5).
None of us has trusted or treasured God as we should. We seek satisfaction in other things and treat them as more valuable than God. The Bible describes this resistance and misplaced worship as sin and idolatry (Romans 1:21-23; Ephesians 2:3; Jeremiah 2:12-13).
Our ingratitude, distrust and disobedience belittle God's glory. God is just, and the Bible warns that sin brings death and separation from His presence. This warning shows the seriousness of our condition and our need for rescue (Romans 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:9).
Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He died for sinners and rose bodily from the dead, opening the way to eternal life. Through Christ, God can forgive guilty people while remaining just and bring them home to Himself (1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Corinthians 15:20; Romans 3:25-26; 1 Peter 3:18).
Repentance means turning away from sin's deceptive promises. Faith means trusting what God promises to be for us in Jesus. Salvation cannot be earned; it is God's free gift of grace, received through faith (Acts 3:19; Acts 16:31; John 6:35; Romans 4:4-5; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:24; Matthew 13:44).
When we turn to Christ, God's purpose is fulfilled: He is glorified in us, and our lasting satisfaction is found in Him.
What should you do?
Turn from the deceitful promises of sin. Call upon Jesus to save you from the guilt and punishment and bondage. "All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13). Start banking your hope on all that God is for you in Jesus. Break the power of sin's promises by faith in the superior satisfaction of God's promises. Begin reading the Bible to find his precious and very great promises, which can set you free (2 Peter 1:3-4). Find a Bible-believing church and begin to worship and grow together with other people who treasure Christ above all things (Philippians 3:7).
